hey all just curious if any of you know where to find a braille world globe? I have seen the talking ones and don't want that. Just a braille one or even tactile that can be brailled. but already done would be much easier! lol! thanks

I've never seen a braille one. Usually the braille takes up much too much room for it to be put on a globe. I never found the tactile ones any good either, the most you can do is find basic longitude and latitude, and identify the continents. Other than that, I didn't find them very useful.
I did a google search and I found several tactile ones, whether those are braille or not, they never said as far as i saw. You might look at the AFB, that is the one I've used. thats about the best information I can give you.

I have a tactile globe that has the land masses raised. I have no further use for it. some of them are pretty small, so Brailling the names might be a bit challenging unless you wanted to use abbreviations. I'm willing to sell mine as I have no use for it right now. It's just sitting on a shelf collecting dust. Contact me via private message for a price. Sorry if i shifted topic a bit.

lol, same here. I too have a tactile Braille globe collecting dust on top of my wardrobe, plus a braille volume consisting of all the towns, cities, continents, countries Etc, which came with it. I'm thinking of selling mine too, price on request. The globe is also on a metal stand to stop it rolling all over the place since it is basically, a huge plastic ball, about the size of one of those big inflatable footballs with a kind of plastic lip serving as the equator. The smooth areas are water, the rough areas are land and all the hundreds, possibly thousands of little dots all over the surface of the Braille/tactile globe, symbolize towns and cities. The continents and 4 of the 7 seas are actually brailled in full in close proximity to where they're situated. I never really had any use for my globe either. My Uncle gave it to me, years ago.

Rather than a globe, I'd much rather have maps with raised lines to outline countries, states, etc. For example, I'd love to have a map of the U.S. with the two-letter abbreviation for each state inside the outline of that state. But I've had no better luck locating something like this than Shea has had finding a good Braille globe.

It is a very good map Becky, the only small draw back being that, due to size restrictions, although they do show the entire shape of the country, some of the smaller states in the north east of the country aren't marked out. They have however provided a separate page with an enlarged north eastern corner so that you can see how all those smaller states fit together. You just have to use your imagination a little when trying to picture where they fit when looking at the whole area.

Hope that helps.

Dan.
